On this week’s episode of ‘Affleck: Will He or Won’t He?’, a new report via Revenge of the Fans‘ states that Warner Bros “is officially over Ben Affleck”. Please be advised, that anything pertaining to behind-the-scenes reports without official word from the studio should be taken as rumor … for now. Nevertheless, in the report, former Latino Review reporter and Revenge of the Fans’ Editor-in-Chief, Mario Robles, states that Warner Bros. is essentially fed up with Affleck. Robles’ source said the following: “Gyllenhaal is probably Batman. Affleck is not out of it yet. That’s the thing, he still has a contract. But the studio is sour on him. If Ben rolls, Jake is in. Kind of a weird web. These guys both know they control each other’s destiny.”

There are quite a few takeaways from this statement. Even if Affleck is contracted to appear in one more film, it is the studio’s purview as to whether or not they exercise the option to use him. Second, if Affleck’s reprisal of the role is only due to a contractual obligation, then even though Affleck is my favorite Batman, I’d prefer not to see him in any future films. Most members of the audience can tell when an actor is simply shuffling along and reading lines. As for Jake Gyllenhaal, while I genuinely believe that Gyllenhaal is one of the best actors of our generation, I can’t see him as Bruce Wayne nor do I believe that he will be contracted for the role.

Regardless, the studio needs to announce sooner rather than later whether Ben Affleck will be returning as Batman/Bruce Wayne or if Jake Gyllenhaal or anyone else has been cast in the part.  Yet, with every week that passes, this continuous back and forth only cements in readers’ minds a perceived disarray.  Quite frankly, I doubt Gyllenhaal will be contracted. However, if the studio is looking to repair its impression among the masses, then it’s imperative that Warner Bros. quell these rumors.
